Selectboard backs MALT plan to replace Otter View Park boardwalk decking and railings

The Weybridge Selectboard voted unanimously to support a Middlebury Area Land Trust (MALT) project to replace decking and railings on the Otter View Park boardwalk.
Erica Harrison, representing MALT, described the wetland habitat the boardwalk traverses and said the rehab is funded by a $50,000 grant plus $15,000 in local support. Harrison told the board that decking will be cedar, a local contractor is lined up and the work is planned to be completed by the end of summer 2025. “No permits are needed,” Harrison said, and MALT requested a Selectboard letter of recommendation to accompany grant work and local fundraising.
Stacey Rainey moved the motion to support MALT’s replacement of the railings and planks; Bill Mayers seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The board did not attach additional funding conditions during the meeting.
The vote gives MALT an explicit municipal endorsement as it pursues the stated grant and local match; the organization will proceed with contractor scheduling and material procurement for the cedar decking.
