Butler County approved a Kansas Department of Transportation programming request to add a multi-use path to a planned roadway project at SW Butler Rd and SW 150th St.
Public Works Engineer Dave Springob said the multi-use path is part of a broader set of projects in the WAMPO area: a roundabout constructed in 2022, a four-lane widening begun in 2026, and a planned 2028 multi-use path along Rosewood Street that will link to SW County Line Road and eventually connect Rose Hill and Andover. The proposed path at SW Butler Rd and SW 150th St will include a 10-foot path on one side and a 6-foot sidewalk on the other and is designed to tie into existing entrance and side road aprons. The grading for the roadway was built to allow these paths without major regrading.
The county's estimated cost for the multi-use path is $405,000. Commissioner Dan Woydziak moved to approve the KDOT programming request; Commissioner Jeff Masterson seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
The programming request is the first formal step to have the project included in KDOT and WAMPO schedules for construction in 2028.
