Central Library drew thousands on opening day, staff report high program and checkout activity

Library staff recapped Central Library's July 12 grand opening and said the day attracted very high attendance and strong program participation. "We had over 4,000 people walk through the door that day," the director said, adding that almost 1,700 were there in the first hour. Staff reported almost 1,200 physical items checked out at Central that day and 236 new library cards issued.

Staff described full program rooms, a packed makerspace with sewing and 3-D printing demonstrations, robust family attendance at story times and ongoing use of study rooms and the recording studio. The director said a TikTok video from opening had attracted attention on social media and that overall patron feedback had been "extremely positive." Staff encouraged patrons to submit title requests via the library's online form to help fill shelves that were temporarily thin due to heavy early checkouts.
