Board votes to end Vernon County support for SMRT Bus program effective 2027

Administrative Coordinator Hanan presented background explaining that Vernon County had previously contributed $16,000 and that the projected 2027 contribution would be $113,977. Hanan said Vernon County routes average "11 riders per day," and that other counties and health partners had reduced or withdrawn support. The board noted alternatives are being pursued and asked staff to provide public information on alternative transportation options.
Supervisor Taylor moved to adopt the resolution, seconded by Supervisor Slack; a voice vote carried with all present voting in favor. The resolution directs the county clerk to notify La Crosse County and instructs staff to post information about alternatives on the county website.
