Board backs state bill to create individual disaster assistance program

The Vernon County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted Resolution 2026-03 on Jan. 20, supporting proposed state legislation to establish a state-funded individual assistance program to help residents and businesses recover following disasters. Emergency Management Director Larson presented the resolution explaining the proposed program would provide emergency housing, home repairs and financial aid while counties await potential FEMA assistance.
The resolution specifically directs submission of a support letter and encourages passage of Assembly Bills 580 and 581 and Senate Bills 557 and 558. Supervisor Schweiger moved adoption and Supervisor Lawler seconded; the board adopted the resolution by voice vote.
