Planner outlines housekeeping package to tidy Sisters Development Code

Associate Planner Sarah Veil told council staff opened a housekeeping project in February and that the planning commission held a workshop and a public hearing, ultimately recommending the text amendments for approval.
“My name is Sarah Veil. I am the associate planner for the city of Sisters,” she said, explaining the amendments are intended to correct spelling and grammar, update code references (for example, accessory dwelling-unit references to the Oregon residential specialty code), fix outline and exhibit labeling, and improve clarity of review authority wording. Veil said the edits are not intended to change the substantive intent of the code.
She gave examples: correcting duplicate lettering in exhibit B (Pine Meadow Village), fixing inconsistent capitalization in exhibit J, making accessory dwelling unit references accurate for the current state building code, and adding an illustrative depiction of a Cascade Avenue setback so applicants can visually confirm whether a proposed use is inside a prohibited setback. “We call them housekeeping,” she said, noting staff ran the packet through a spelling and grammar check for consistency.
Councilors raised questions about sign-code lighting and dark-sky standards and asked that commonly used acronyms (for example, SDC) be defined in the packet. Veil said the packet already cross-references dark-sky standards and she welcomed further edits to the sign code.
