Commission approves temporary Solid Waste training position; extension workshop announced

The Geneva County Commission on June 9 granted the Solid Waste Director authority to create a temporary position to allow training of a replacement after the Assistant Director submitted a resignation; Commissioner Bart Wilks moved the measure and it passed 3-0. The minutes state the temporary role is intended to allow for on‑the‑job training prior to making a permanent hire.
Auburn Extension's Mrs. Nikki Dyess announced an Emergency Response for animal needs training workshop to be held June 24, 2025, at the 4‑H training center involving Alabama and Kentucky Extension offices to create a community plan for moving livestock during emergencies. Chairman Toby Seay also reported that JMR+H is rescheduling a June 19 pre‑bid meeting for the multi‑purpose arena due to the holiday, while the July bid opening date should remain unchanged.
Revenue Commissioner Mary Ann Ellison told the Commission that valuation notices were running through June 23 and that notices went to property owners whose value increased by more than $7,000; her office is fielding calls for adjustments.
