Grant County adopts temporary moratorium on data-center applications

County Attorney Kelly Premer Chavez told the board she recommended seeking outside legal counsel to review the related solar and development documents, a step the commissioners approved. State Representative Martin Long had earlier warned about impending state-level tax changes that could affect how renewable-energy and data-center projects are taxed, saying such taxes are “likely within the next 1–2 years.” The board said the moratorium would provide time to assess local zoning, PILOT agreements and fiscal impacts before accepting further applications.
The moratorium is temporary; the resolution and its effective dates were entered into the record as Resolution 2026-03. The board did not set a public timeline in the transcript for lifting the moratorium; staff were directed to pursue legal review and return with recommendations.
