Ruston holds first reading to align sewer pre‑treatment code with Tacoma electronic‑reporting change

On first reading, the council reviewed Ordinance 1590 to amend Ruston's sewer/pre‑treatment code so the city can register for and submit electronic pre‑treatment reports to Tacoma after Tacoma amended TMC 12.08C; Mayor Hopkins said passage carries no additional cost to the city.

The City of Ruston presented Ordinance 1590 for first reading to amend the sewer code (Ch. 21.04) so Ruston’s pre‑treatment rules mirror Tacoma’s recent amendment to Tacoma Municipal Code 12.08C and permit Ruston to accept and submit electronic reports under the EPA electronic reporting rule. Ruston has sent wastewater to the Tacoma Northend treatment plant under interlocal arrangements since 1966 and maintains a 2021 Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Agreement and Pre‑treatment Interlocal Agreement that require Ruston to update its municipal code when Tacoma revises its standards.
