Ruston Council adopts code change to allow electronic pre‑treatment reporting with Tacoma

The Ruston City Council on April 1 adopted Ordinance 1590, updating the city’s pre‑treatment ordinance to mirror an amendment Tacoma adopted to allow electronic reporting under the Environmental Protection Agency’s electronic reporting rule. Under the Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Agreement and the Pre‑treatment Interlocal Agreement, Ruston is required to keep its Pretreatment Ordinance at least as stringent and broad as Tacoma’s standards and to adopt corresponding changes when Tacoma amends its requirements.
Mayor Bruce DRUP Hopkins told the council the amendment is necessary to allow Ruston to register for and submit electronic reports to the Tacoma Northend wastewater treatment plant. Councilmember Jensen asked about renewal dates for the interlocal agreements; the mayor responded that the ILA in question had already been renewed and discussed renewal term lengths. Councilmember Hedrick moved to adopt Ordinance 1590; Councilmember Syler seconded and the ordinance passed 4-0.
