Supervisor Paul Stimpson moved to consider the resolution reaffirming the Second Amendment; Supervisor Robert Saunders Jr. seconded. After discussion and reading of the resolution’s findings — which referenced the U.S. Constitution, the Virginia Constitution, and the U.S. Supreme Court decision New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen — the Board voted to table the discussion until the May 12, 2026 meeting. The roll call showed one dissenting vote: Supervisor Bryan Hamlet voted nay, while Chairman John Newman, Vice-Chair Eurika Tyree, Supervisor Paul Stimpson and Supervisor Robert Saunders Jr. voted aye.
The resolution text objected to proposed state-level measures described in the draft as "firearm prohibitions, magazine capacity limits, firearm type bans, restrictions on lawful possession," and directed that county funds and personnel should not be knowingly used to enforce laws deemed unconstitutional, "except where otherwise required by lawful court order." The motion to table superseded immediate adoption and schedules further Board consideration in May.
