Page County adopts updated Emergency Operations Plan required by state law

The Page County Board adopted an updated Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) presented by county emergency management staff to comply with the Virginia Emergency Services and Disaster Law of 2000.
Mr. Brown said the EOP—required every four years—aligns the county with the Virginia Statewide Emergency Management System, assigns responsibilities across county departments and outlines procedures for natural disasters, hazardous‑materials incidents and other large emergencies. Brown cited recent local events in which the county coordinated a missing‑person search and weather responses and described how mutual‑aid and state/federal resources can be requested under the plan. “The EOP is a multidisciplinary all hazards plan that prepares the county to respond to both natural disasters such as hurricanes and flash flooding and human caused incidents,” he said.
Board members praised communications and the operations center in Stanley and asked about rail hazardous‑materials coordination; Brown described contact protocols with the state regional hazmat officer and said the county has processes to request train stoppage only when necessary. A motion to adopt the EOP resolution carried on a board vote.
Staff will file the resolution and continue periodic coordination and training with neighboring jurisdictions and state emergency management.
