Committee discusses permit rules for short-term rentals and clarifies travel-trailer limits

Jul 9, 2026

Staff proposed land‑use permits and operational standards for short‑term rentals (minimum unit size 500 sq ft; options for minimum stay up to 7 days and maximum days per year up to 180) and clarified travel‑trailer rules for occupied and undeveloped parcels.

The full story

Staff recommended that short‑term rentals (Airbnb/VRBO) require a land‑use permit and meet operational standards — including limiting rentals to the principal dwelling (no accessory-structure rentals), requiring the permit number in listings, and a minimum rented unit size of 500 square feet. Staff noted options available under state law: the county cannot ban short‑term rentals outright but can set a minimum stay (up to seven days) and cap the number of days rented per year (up to 180).
