Michael Allen told the commission that while multifamily housing is permitted in most of town, developments classified as "affordable" are treated as conditional uses and must go before the Development Review Board. "He believes this should be revisited if the board wishes to incentivize affordable housing," the transcript records.
Commissioner Carolyn Alderman asked whether the town plan could include language allowing office or industrial properties to accommodate worker housing—her example was a tech workcentre with onsite housing—and she urged incentives for infill development such as discounted rates to connect to town water and sewer or targeted tax relief. No ordinance changes were adopted at the July 16 workshop; the topic will return for further discussion.
