Councilmember Glass introduced an amendment to create a 16‑member task force to study data centers and advise the council during the moratorium, proposing representatives from planning, DEP, DPS, fire/rescue, the county economic development corporation, utilities, public health, civic associations and environmental groups.
Chair Fanny Gonzalez said she would not vote for the amendments and argued that existing account executives and pending state and Office of Legislative Oversight (OLO) studies made a separate task force unnecessary. Council Vice President Balcom and Councilmember Sales also raised concerns about the task force structure and timing. The chair said she did not see a second for the task force amendment, and it therefore was not considered further. Glass said a public convening body was the best way to turn private communications into public conversation, but the motion to create the task force did not proceed to a committee vote.
