The Acton Select Board on May 28, 2025 discussed placing several high-cost municipal items on a fall ballot, including finalized ambulance specifications, a potential command vehicle and a municipal car.
Town Administrator Jennifer Roux told members the Fire Chief is "looking at the ambulance specs" and will return with a recommendation and a cost so the town can include a precise figure on the ballot. Select Board member David Winchell asked for photos and maintenance records for the requested command vehicle before the board votes on whether to include it, and Roux said the board did not have to decide immediately.
Members debated timing. Roux said the vote could occur in August or September; McGurty and others questioned whether November might be better, noting timing affects the town's ability to re-solicit bids or adjust plans if a ballot question fails. The board agreed to consider the scheduling impact on procurement and on the winter snow-plowing article, which is also expected to be on the ballot.
The discussion ended without a final vote to place the items on a specific fall date; Roux will return with detailed ambulance specs and the additional materials Winchell requested for the command vehicle before the board decides whether to include those items on the ballot.
