Selectperson Mike Pelzcar told the Select Board municipal employees should generally work on-site, saying the public pays for their services and noting fairness to employees whose jobs do not allow remote work. “As a Municipality who works for the public, employees should be in their offices, vehicles, or wherever they work, for 40 hours a week,” Pelzcar said.
Selectpersons Forrester, Leighton and Vice Chair Gregoire agreed that regular, ongoing remote work should be rare and that exceptions are within the town manager’s prerogative. Manager Judie Milner said limited exceptions can occur in rare cases and noted supervisors will review position‑description questionnaires (PDQs) returned by staff as part of a pay‑and‑classification study; PDQs were distributed to employees and due back to the consultant on June 30, with supervisors given two weeks to comment.
Chair Aiken disagreed with the board majority on the point and the board did not take any immediate formal action; the discussion will inform personnel policy and PDQ review and may return to a future agenda if board members request policy changes.
