UDOT briefs council on Jeremy Ranch bridge replacement; two weekend closures planned for span slides

A project manager from the Utah Department of Transportation updated the Summit County Council on the I‑80 Jeremy Ranch bridge‑replacement work. Jessica Rice said the two existing twin structures have reached the end of their service life and will be replaced using accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques: the contractor will build the new span off‑site and slide it into place, requiring one weekend closure per structure (one direction at a time) for the installation.
Rice emphasized that pedestrian and bicycle access on Homestead Road will remain open, but the trail alignment will be temporarily shifted and separated with barriers during construction. She said bid opening was imminent and the contractor schedule will determine whether the slides happen this summer or next spring/summer, and that UDOT will coordinate outreach, alternate routes (Parleys Lane, Kimball Junction) and traffic advisories. Council members sought clarification on closure timing and whether the sliding operations would be night or weekend work; Rice said the intent is weekend closures with the option to complete the move quickly if conditions allow. "It will be one weekend per each structure," Rice said, adding that the contractor may need a full weekend window in case of delays.
