Commissioners prioritize economic opportunity and workforce training in top-5 exercise

As part of the day's work, the board used a QR-based poll to select five priority goals from a longer list of draft goals and objectives. Facilitator Henning walked commissioners through the five strategic areas and asked each to pick five priorities for staff to focus on first.
Results reported by the facilitator showed three of the four commissioners selected economic opportunity items such as site-ready locations and recurring funding for economic development. Workforce development goals—particularly a "learn here, work here" training and incubator approach—received multiple selections as well. The facilitator said these early patterns will help staff prioritize initial actions and populate a "top 5" worksheet for follow-up.
Commissioner discussion emphasized that strengthening economic opportunity could have a broad, long-term effect across other areas. "If those increase, then everything else below it will have a high ability to develop," one commissioner said, urging staff to consider a multi-pronged approach to both homegrown business development and attracting employers.
