Commission backs Hatfield parcel withdrawal from Ag & Forestal District

The Accomack County Planning Commission voted to recommend that the Board of Supervisors withdraw two parcels owned by Barbara J. Hatfield (tax map 11‑A‑29A and 11‑A‑30B, roughly 26 acres) from the Ag & Forestal District so the parcels may be subdivided and a house placed on the land.
Cindy Jones, code enforcement officer for zoning, told the commission the owners intend to deed to a relative and later build, and that “the parcels are in an Ag And Forestal District, and would need to be taken out of the district in order to subdivide.” Staff stated it was neutral on the withdrawal and that the AFD Committee recommended removal.
Commission members asked whether the owners had provided the necessary materials; Jones said they had addressed staff concerns and must still complete subdivision sign‑off and recordation. On a motion and second, the commission voted by voice to recommend the withdrawal to the Board of Supervisors.
The Board of Supervisors will hold the final hearing on the withdrawal; any required permitting and subdivision approvals must be completed before any building permit can be issued.
