Anna council adopts 2050 parks, open-space and trails master plan

The Anna City Council voted unanimously to adopt the Anna 2050 parks, open space, trails and recreation master plan during its May 12 meeting.
City staff and consultants told the council the update began in 2021 and included virtual and in-person public input between May and September before the Parks Advisory Board recommended approval in February. "This is just a plan," said Jeff Freeth, acting director of community services, adding that the document establishes a policy roadmap rather than immediate construction obligations. Staff outlined next steps that include presenting Collin County’s trails master plan (May 26) and a community recreation-center feasibility study.
Council members pressed staff on trail alignments and connections in northern neighborhoods; staff said more detailed alignment studies and further outreach will follow, and the plan will be paired with a parks CIP that lists completed, pending and prioritized projects. Senior planner Lauren Mechy described public outreach and technical elements such as the tree- and canopy-mapping approach used in the update.
The adoption formalizes an updated framework for parks, trails and maintenance priorities as Anna plans for growth through mid-century. Staff said they will return with implementation steps, grant opportunities, and a proposed capital-improvement program tied to the plan.
