County board backs reauthorization of Knowles-Nelson Stewardship program
Vernon County adopted a resolution supporting a 10-year reauthorization of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program and asked that copies be sent to state officials; county cited past purchases (117 acres) and local economic benefits.

The Board unanimously adopted Resolution 2025-29 expressing strong support for reauthorization of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, which the resolution noted has enabled Vernon County to acquire 117 acres in past projects, including Esofea Park. County Conservationist Dave Hettenbach presented the item and said the program preserves natural areas, protects water quality and supports outdoor recreation that benefits the county tourist economy.
