Carver County's sheriff presented a proposal to the board to allocate retired sheriff badges to the deputies who last wore them as mementos through the employee recognition program rather than disposing of them. The sheriff explained legal constraints, including impersonation statutes and disposal policy, and sought a one-time policy exception. "I'm proposing that the board make a one-time policy exception," the sheriff said, adding that any badges unsuitable for reissue would be disposed through normal asset-disposal channels.
