Select Board defends single-question local option tax; some members and residents push for separate votes

During the July 29 meeting attendees asked whether the four potential local option taxes would appear as separate questions or a single combined question. Select Board member Nancy White asked, “So it's going to be 1 yes or no?” and later said, “I think it's a big mistake not to put each of the 4 on individually.”
Select Board members responded that the ballot article before them reads as a single, combined question and that this language has been used on other towns’ ballots. Jim Sullivan said the motion and specific language before the board is to place the combined article on the ballot, and Clark Adams and other board members characterized that language as “clear as a bell.” The board proceeded to vote on the single combined article.
