Council approves reclassification in Public Defender’s office over pay-parity debate, 5-2
Floyd County Council voted 5-2 to reclassify an administrative assistant to administrative paralegal in the Public Defender’s office; the council said the effective date is the next full pay period and the net budget impact after state reimbursement is approximately $8,000.

Public Defender Matt Lorch asked the council to reclassify his Administrative Assistant to Administrative Paralegal to achieve pay parity with the Prosecutor’s office and as part of a state-approved comprehensive plan. The council approved the reclassification on a 5-2 vote (Jim Freiberger and Denise Konkle opposed). Mr. Lorch said the net fiscal impact after state reimbursement would be approximately $8,000.
