County engineer previews multi-year road projects, urges coordination with state and cities

Todd Fitzher, Douglas County engineer, presented the county's five-year highway improvement plan and walked commissioners through recent and upcoming projects, including work at 216th & Fort, construction of Rainwood Road (to connect to 168th pending an NRD-built bridge), Q Street West improvements and the Fort Street project with temporary asphalting to serve a new school. Fitzher described partnerships with SIDs, municipalities and the NRD and said utility relocations have slowed some timelines.
Fitzher explained the county seeks safety and operational improvements and often buys ultimate right-of-way early to avoid repeat acquisitions. He responded to commissioners'questions about how the county can press state agencies to accelerate state-controlled segments such as Skyline Drive and other state highways. Action on the county's plan is scheduled for the Aug. 4 meeting.
