The Elko County Board of Fire Commissioners voted to accept the Fire District's operations plan for 2025'026, a two-year document Chief Matt Peterson described as a "living document" that will be updated as staffing changes occur.
Peterson told the board the plan identifies vacancies and training gaps and that some positions remain unfilled after internal promotions and departures. Commissioners discussed the staffing mix and the use of seasonals to meet peak seasonal needs; one commissioner said they were satisfied that funded positions had increased slightly and thanked staff for answering questions. The motion to approve the operations plan was moved by Commissioner (speaker 4) and seconded by speaker 2; the board voted to accept the plan.
The chief said no immediate action was required beyond acceptance, but the plan provides a framework to update responsibilities and training as vacancies are filled.
