Commissioners direct staff to add UDO text amendments and study data‑center rules

County staff reviewed a list of proposed text amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) during the Sept. 16 work session. The items include re‑adding uses mistakenly omitted from the new UDO (athletic health clubs, hunting clubs with lodges, and commercial livestock raising), updating public‑notice rules to comply with a new Georgia statute, adding enforcement language requested by the sheriff for short‑term vacation rentals, considering a five‑acre minimum for certain agricultural placements, and adding a foundation survey to the building‑permit and inspection process.

"We have come across some of those…The first three there are just items that were in our old ordinance and they just somehow got left out," Anderson said. Commissioners also directed staff to add a data‑center text amendment and study to the list for discussion at tonight’s meeting; staff explained data centers raise complex issues (water, power, noise, and potential moratoria or district‑specific rules) and recommended a deliberate study and, if necessary, targeted regulations.
