Commission adopts local functional classification map to guide land-use decisions

The board adopted HCCPA 24-23 to formally adopt the county’s local functional classification map, which staff said will be used to apply locational criteria in the comprehensive plan and guide land-development decisions. Katrina Corcoran of Planning Commission staff explained functional classes (principal arterial, arterial, collector, local) and said the map would be renamed and used to support transportation- and access-related policy implementation.
Corcoran noted coordination with municipalities and minor adjustments agreed with Plant City and Tampa; Commissioner Cohen confirmed Gandy Boulevard from Himes to Bayshore would remain a collector under the county map, and the board approved the motion 7–0.
