Director's report: permits down from last month; county enforcing penalties for unpermitted work

Director Osborne presented the planning report for September: the office received 139 applications (51 fewer than the previous month), processed 71 applications, and issued 156 total permits (33 fewer single‑family permits and nine fewer commercial permits compared with last month). Inspections increased to 504 for the month.
On code enforcement, Director Osborne said Nye County is now enforcing an existing code provision that allows charging up to four times fees and fines up to $5,000 for residential unpermitted work and up to $50,000 for nonresidential projects. He said coordination with the assessor's office has increased referrals of properties that appear to have unpermitted construction and that the county will exercise discretion in enforcement.
