Chair introduced the measure and said it would put the board on record in favor of the joint dispatch initiative recommended by the committee. Samantha moved the resolution and Andy seconded; the clerk recorded unanimous 'yes' votes and the Chair stated the board supports the movement toward joint dispatch of the city and county.
The decision came after earlier public comments about persistent conflicts in the county’s 9-1-1 and Emergency Telephone System Board operations. Kirk Allen and others recounted long-standing dispatch issues dating back to 2010 and raised concerns about volunteer burnout and conflict-of-interest questions involving appointments to the 9-1-1 board. The board withdrew two appointment items (Troy Eads and Richie Wilson) so the state's attorney could review legal questions and potential conflicts before the county proceeds with appointments.
Adam (representing the ETSB as chairman) urged caution and said the ETSB is working to improve dispatch operations and that threatening litigation against a subcommittee could halt progress. The Chair said the board plans to meet with full boards of the involved parties to try to resolve disputes prior to further action.
