MCPS lists five program themes that every region will host, with local pathway variation

Montgomery County Public Schools described five broad theme areas that will be represented in each region's repertoire of regional pathways: medical science and healthcare; science, technology, engineering and mathematics; International Baccalaureate and humanities/languages; leadership and public service; and visual and performing arts, design and communication.
"These themes are medical science and healthcare, science technology mathematics, engineering and math, international baccalaureate and humanities and language, leadership and public service, visual and performing arts design and communication," Ebony Lankford Brown said, explaining that themes act as broad buckets and the specific pathways that fill them will differ between regions based on school assets, course offerings, facility size and proven program success in particular buildings.
She gave examples of pathways that will live under those themes: biomedicine under medical science, global leadership and global ecology under leadership and public service, and IB under the IB/humanities theme. Staff emphasized that while all regions will have the five themes, not every pathway will appear in every region: availability depends on local facilities, course sequences and historical successes at host schools.
Program overviews and "trading cards" with course progressions, core experiences and culminating activities will be posted on the district's program site for families to review before applications open.
