Staff explained that following the decennial census and the MPO boundary expansion, the MPO must update the federal functional classification of roads in the new planning area, separate from any local functional classifications. The speaker said TxDOT provided suggested classifications based on traffic volumes, lane width and trip purpose and that the MPO will review those recommendations through the Technical Advisory Committee.
"This is the federal functional classification... Federal Highway put out guidelines on how to do that. TxDOT modified them a little bit and went through the process based on traffic volumes," the staff member said. Staff noted minor arterial additions and some upgrades from local streets and said a formal resolution to support or suggest changes will be requested at the next meeting after TAC review.
