Nonprofit Lighthouse Adult Care Services asks district to explore shared space for local day program

Richard Cunningham and other Lighthouse board members described a day-program that supports caregivers by providing supervised activities for people with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Cunningham said many local residents travel out of the area to access services and that Lighthouse needs a space with two accessible bathrooms, kitchen facilities and room for activities.

Staff said the district building has partitioning and a rear ramp that might allow shared use without disrupting regular operations; they flagged potential complications including tax or lease implications if the district hosts a nonprofit program and the need to ensure access to required bathroom and kitchen facilities. Board members expressed support for the concept but emphasized staff must evaluate liability, scheduling conflicts with existing uses and whether an alternate county facility might be more suitable. The board asked staff to explore options and report back.
