Forensic lab warns cuts and vacancies could slow toxicology and autopsy reports

Dr. Gompetti, interim chief medical examiner at the Institute of Forensic Sciences, told Commissioners Court the office is "operating at capacity" and asked the court to restore funding the office had requested in CLS, including $350,000 for staff; he said the cut is effectively a reduction that will first hit non-labor lines but ultimately slow turnaround times for autopsy and toxicology reports.
