County backs MnDOT plan for four-legged roundabout at Pine River intersection

County Engineer Darrick Anderson briefed the Board on an Intersection Control Evaluation conducted by MnDOT and a committee of local agencies for MN 371 & CSAH 2/CSAH 42 in Pine River. Anderson said the preferred option was a "four-legged roundabout," and that Cass County would be responsible for the CSAH 2 and CSAH 42 legs. He recommended the Board support the plan as the most economical and safest solution for the intersection.
Anderson said future grant applications and State Aid Construction funds would be used to cover the county's balance of the project and that the Paul Bunyan Trail would be shifted west to accommodate the roundabout. The Board voted unanimously to approve the evaluation and authorized the County Engineer to sign on the Board's behalf.
