LUPC reports permit-processing gains; partners with regional code officer

Acting Planning Manager Stacey Benjamin and interim Executive Director Ben Godsoe briefed the Somerset County Commissioners on the Land Use Planning Commission’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan update and staffing changes intended to speed permitting and inspections.
Godsoe said their permitting software shows that "75% of permits are processed within one week," and Administrator Tim Curtis noted the LUPC’s partnership with the Kennebec Valley Council of Governments to use a Regional Code Officer as a third-party inspector on projects in the Unorganized Territory. The presenters said they are building staff capacity to increase permitting efficiency.
