Board designates five rural roads for hard surfacing under Rural Rustic program

At the May 14 meeting the Grayson County Board of Supervisors adopted a series of resolutions under Code of Virginia §33.2‑332 to designate several unpaved segments as Rural Rustic Roads and requested that the VDOT Residency Administrator concur and hard surface them with minimal right-of-way disturbance.
Designations and lengths (as recorded in the resolutions) include: - Maple Ridge Lane (Route 896), 0.24 miles, from Route 274 to dead end; resolution requests hard surfacing and preservation of adjacent vegetation. - Mt. Olivet (Route 625), 0.45 miles, from Route 633 to Route 707. - Mt. Olivet (Route 633), 0.80 miles, from Route 624 to Route 625. - Hickory Lane (Route 786), 0.50 miles, from Fairview Road (Route 821) to dead end. - Walnut Lane (Route 860), 0.27 miles, from Route 94 to dead end.
Each resolution records that the Board is unaware of pending development that would significantly increase traffic, and each passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. The resolutions ask VDOT to improve the roads "to the fullest extent prudent" within existing right-of-way and ditch-lines to preserve trees, vegetation and the roads' rural character.
