Highlander Fire Protection District outlines EMS needs, equipment mismatch and $1.9M debt

Captain Keith Young presented call-volume data and operational challenges for the Highlander Fire Protection District, telling the Council the department is managing legacy debt (about $1.9 million) and that a recently acquired Quad 11 vehicle was 'spec wrong' and too large to safely operate on county roads, so it is not in use and is listed for sale. Young said the district expects delivery of a third ambulance in December and has switched to Medbill in May for billing. He recommended additional funding and better coordination to expand coverage across the county.
