Kendall County authorized application for state criminal alien assistance reimbursement

County staff requested and the court authorized submission of an application for the FY2025 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAP) through the U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance. Sharon (county staff) and Captain Green explained SCAP reimburses local governments for certain costs associated with incarceration of undocumented criminal aliens during the reporting period; Kendall County previously received varying reimbursements, including $19,478 (2020) and $39,231 (2023).
Officials said the application is an authorization to apply and that detailed cost documentation (staff time, food, housing, inmate days) will be compiled only if the county is awarded reimbursement. Commissioner Chapman moved to authorize staff to apply; the court approved the motion unanimously, 5–0.
