Ruston council adopts periodic Comprehensive Plan update required by state Growth Management Act
The Ruston City Council voted 4-0 to adopt Ordinance No. 1598, completing the city's periodic Comprehensive Plan update under RCW 36.70A. The update follows two years of review, public hearings, and required state reviews; building height changes were not included and will be considered separately.

The Ruston City Council unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 1598 on March 3, 2026, completing the City's periodic Comprehensive Plan update required by the Washington State Growth Management Act (RCW 36.70A). Kirsten Peterson, planning consultant with SCJ Alliance, summarized the two-year review process that included Planning Commission review, a public hearing, SEPA environmental review, and external review by the Washington State Department of Commerce and the Puget Sound Regional Council. Peterson told the Council the draft meets GMA requirements and staff recommended approval.
