Altamont Elementary students presented an overview of RISE, a student leadership elective that splits members into subcommittees for entrepreneurship, mental health and mentorship. Student Jayesh Sharapur, who represents the entrepreneurship and business committee, said the program “prepares its members for entrepreneurial leadership in the future.”
Trustees asked how the committees engage students who are not enrolled in the class and about meeting times. Students described a buddy/mentorship program, schoolwide promotion through weekly Panther Briefs, and committee meetings during class time on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Board President Lisa Boulay congratulated the students on the organization and clarity of their presentations and encouraged trustees to visit the class.
