Clark Environmental defends extra spray miles, offers to work with district on program design

A regional Clark Environmental representative made an extended presentation to the board addressing concerns raised earlier about additional spray miles, per-mile costs and program effectiveness. Clark provided summarized trap data showing elevated mosquito counts in 2024 and noted three West Nile virus–positive mosquito samples in 2025 in the Mud Lake and Roberts areas; the company said additional treatments were requested and approved by the abatement board and that GPS-tracked miles and invoices support the billing.
"Every mile that that was sprayed beyond the original estimate... was completed after explicit approval from the board," the Clark representative said, and provided invoices showing the extra-mile billing at mid‑$30 rates. He also described how trap surveillance and human-case risk informed treatment and offered to meet with district leadership to review routes, optimize services and, if the district elects to go in house, to support a transition or provide equipment and training. Commissioners thanked the presenter and said they would follow up with the abatement district on levy and competition issues.
