Winter Lakes highlights CTE tiny‑home project, GED testing site and student drone work

At Tuesday’s meeting, Tiffany Clapper described program expansions at Winter Lakes, including an Aspire program, TRIO student support and a recently approved Pearson GED testing site that will serve the school and the community as a testing center on the Southern Oregon Coast.
Clapper thanked staff and highlighted recent student activities: a well‑attended FAFSA night, culinary field trips (Feb. 6) and college visits. She described a CTE partnership with Team Oregon Build that provided more than $30,000 in materials for students to construct a tiny home to donate to people experiencing homelessness; she said the school will reuse the materials in future years. Clapper introduced student builders who reported progress on a unit under construction (framing, drywall, electrical, windows, primer).
The presentation included a hands‑on drone demonstration led by a teacher identified as Rasmussen; he described simulator and flight practice and had students demonstrate flight control. "I'm a scientist by trade," Rasmussen said before the student demonstration. The superintendent and trustees encouraged board members and community members to visit the CTE classroom to observe student work.
