Murphy adopts 2026 Master Plan after joint council and P&Z votes

The City of Murphy formally adopted the 2026 Murphy Master Plan on March 10 after joint votes by the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council.
Consultant Abra Nusser of LJA summarized the plan as a high-level future land-use vision developed since May 2025 with two community forums and advisory committee input. "This is our draft future land use plan," Nusser said, noting a small map adjustment to Mod 11 at the southeast corner of Murphy Road and Betsy Lane and that the document is intended to guide long-term priorities rather than establish detailed zoning. City staff told the boards the plan includes prioritized short-, mid- and long-term actions with conceptual costs to help implementation.
Planning & Zoning moved and unanimously approved a resolution adopting the plan. At the city council hearing a resident asked the council to make prior work-session materials more accessible; staff confirmed relevant videos and documents are posted online. Council members debated the plan's future-facing intent before adopting the resolution; the council record indicates the motion passed after a voice vote. No formal amendments to the master plan were made at adoption. The plan will be used as the guiding comprehensive plan for future zoning and land-use decisions in Murphy.
