Bond County Board tables Veterans Assistance Commission levy after debate over allocation
Board members and veterans debated whether enough of the proposed Veterans Assistance Commission levy would flow directly to veterans; after discussion the Board tabled the measure on a 5-0 vote.

Several veterans attended the Oct. 1 Bond County Board meeting to express views on the proposed levy for the Veterans Assistance Commission. Commissioner Jeff Rehkemper said he was concerned that only a small percentage of the proposed levy would go directly to veterans and recommended tabling the item. Local veteran Tony Koonce urged passage, saying, "they can't deny it SO they might as well just pass it."
