Select Board considers $5 day pass, asks for usage data before vote

The Fairhaven Select Board discussed a proposal to allow residents one-day access to the transfer station for $5 as an alternative to the current $40 annual sticker. Speaker 5, who summarized operational details, said the day-pass was intended for residents who visit the facility only once or twice a year and that implementing a point-of-sale system and day-pass would require operational changes and vendor selection.

Board members flagged implementation questions and requested data to inform any change. Chair said he supported the idea in principle but wanted to review detailed transaction and tonnage records by day to decide which weekday, if any, should be reduced during winter hours. Speaker 4 warned that changing established days could prompt resident complaints and suggested removing Thursday if a day must be cut. The board agreed to postpone action for two weeks so staff can provide the requested usage breakdown and vendor cost estimates.
