Staff briefed the commission on recent council activity and an ongoing discussion about wildland-urban-interface (WUI) standards. Brandon said the council had discussed the Deer Run concept plan and the Corgan Farms rezone as discussion items and approved a minor development agreement amendment related to a fence issue for Flagship Homes.
On the WUI issue, staff said the council declined to adopt a 30-foot setback requirement after raising concerns about property rights and the potential effect on owners’ ability to build sheds and other small structures. Brandon said the city adopted a WUI map in February that identifies specific locations, notably on the East Bench, where building-code WUI rules already apply, and added that a newer 2024 version of the WUI code takes effect July 1.
Commissioners asked staff to check whether fencing and accessory structures might be affected and to bring additional detail back to the commission for any future code amendments.
