County engineers report progress on roadwork; Wendling begins rock-hauling contract

At the April 14 meeting, Jackson County Engineering told supervisors that the previously approved contract for rock hauling has begun and that staff are coordinating operations in the field. Jaden Sheckwell said Wendling began hauling the day after award and that office staff and blade operators are working together to spread material; he noted positive public feedback on recent brush cutting and mulching.

Sheckwell also updated the board on the Z-15 bridge work—deck removal and structure work are in progress—and explained scheduling challenges caused by rising river levels and repeated rain. On project timing he said one project is estimated at "80 working days," explaining that working days exclude rain days and therefore the calendar duration depends heavily on weather. Sheckwell told supervisors the larger paving and guard-work scope adds time compared with similar bridge replacements on gravel roads.
