County approves engineers for sewer and SEID grant applications; evaluation sheets note differing fee structures

The Board of Commissioners approved two engineering selections during the Jan. 6 meeting: Barge Design was selected as engineer for the county's sewer grant work, and EMC Engineering was selected for the SCRC SEID 2025 grant application. Both motions were made by Commissioner Timothy Biddle, seconded by Commissioner Jason Frost, and passed unanimously.
The commission relied on River Valley Regional Commission evaluation materials submitted for review. The evaluation notes state that Moon Meeks & Associates charges a $6,000 preliminary-engineering report fee and 17% of construction for engineering services, while EMC charges roughly 9% for engineering and does not charge a separate preliminary engineering fee. The evaluation sheets and score summaries were used to justify the committee's recommendations; the commission voted to proceed with the highest-ranked firms for each solicitation.
